Mauricio Shogun Rua vs Sam Alvey Added To UFC Sao Paulo

An ESPN report has confirmed that the UFC’s have booked a light heavyweight matchup for their next visit to Brazil as Mauricio “Shogun” Rua takes on Sam Alvey.

Shogun recently bounced back from a loss to Anthony Smith by finishing Tyson Pedro in front of his home town Australian crowd. Shogun has won four of his last five bouts in the octagon and will be looking to make it two wins in a row with a win over Sam Alvey.

Alvey got off to a great start when moving up to light heavyweight in 2018 winning his first two fights. Unfortunately, Alvey struggled to maintain this and slipped into a three-fight losing streak, being stopped in two of those bouts as well. Alvey will need to bank a win over Shogun otherwise a four-fight losing streak could put his position with the UFC in jeopardy.

Shogun is a former UFC light heavyweight champion, the 2005 Pride Middleweight Grand Prix Champion and is widely regarded as an MMA legend. A win over Rua would be a massive feather in the cap of Alvey. Shogun only has two fights left on his UFC contract and has hinted at retirement after this so it may be the second last time we see Shogun in the cage.

The UFC Sao Paulo card will be headlined by Jacare Souza vs Jan Blachowicz as Jacare makes the step up to 205lbs to try his hand at a new weight class.
