Next weekend’s UFC 243 pay-per-view in Australia has just lost a main card fight.
According to an ESPN report, Holly Holm has had to withdraw from her rematch with Raquel Pennington due to an undisclosed injury. It is currently unclear whether or not Pennington will stay on the card. MMA Fighting have reported that the injury Holm has is not serious but was enough to cause the withdrawal from the card so we may see the fight rescheduled to another card in the near future if Holm benefits from a quick recovery.
Holm’s last outing in Melbourne was the monumental knockout victory she scored over Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 to claim the bantamweight title. Since then, Holm has only won twice in seven fights with four of those defeats coming in title fights. Holm was looking to get back to winning ways after a failed bid to reclaim the 135lb title from Amanda Nunes.
Holm already holds a victory over Pennington taking a split decision win back in 2015 at UFC 184 in her UFC debut. Holm and Pennington were actually scheduled to fight before this at UFC 181 but Holm pulled out of the fight with a neck injury.
An Australia vs New Zealand title fight is headlining UFC 243 as reigning middleweight champion Robert Whittaker defends his title against the flashy striker Israel Adesanya.
