According to an ESPN report, it appears that Derrick Lewis vs Ilir Latifi is close to being finalised and booked for the promotions PPV show on February 8th.

The report suggests that the fight has not officially been booked yet and contracts have not been signed but both fighters have agreed to the matchup.

Latifi would be making the jump up to heavyweight for the first time in his UFC career following a 7-5 record in the UFC’s light heavyweight division. Latifi’s first two professional MMA bouts were at heavyweight over 10 years ago when he fought current UFC heavyweight Blagoy Ivanov in his MMA debut to a no contest.

The Swede has lost his last two bouts at light heavyweight to Corey Anderson and Volkan Oezdemir respectively and will be looking for a fresh start in a new weight division.

It was announced in October that Latifi and his team had planned the move up to heavyweight for their next fight seeking a fresh start.

Lewis is coming off a split decision win over Latifi’s former opponent, Ivanov, at UFC 244 earlier this month. Prior to the Ivanov fight, Lewis lost back to back fights against Daniel Cormier and Junior Dos Santos. The February 8th show is yet to have a venue and location, but the report also suggests that it could take place in Houston, Texas. Hailing from Houston, Lewis would be the hometown fighter in this situation which could provide another disadvantage for Latifi who will already have a five-inch height and six-inch reach disadvantage to overcome.
