It looks like Daniel Cormier may not be retiring just yet.
“Stipe is recovering from that fight; he’s got some bumps and bangs from that fight. We’re waiting for him to heal and then yeah, we’re going to do the trilogy”.
The pair now hold a win each over each other with Cormier winning the first bout via first round knockout and Miocic winning the rematch via fourth round knockout at UFC 241.
There were many questions whether Cormier would retire following his loss to Miocic as he originally planned to be retired before he turned 40 in March 2019.
Cormier released an Instagram post after his loss to Miocic saying “This has been the most amazing journey, I will decide what I am gonna do now, and as soon as I decide you will all know right away.”
Cormier has not yet made any announcements on his career plans moving forward yet.
With all Cormier has accomplished in the sport it’s hard to say he isn’t deserving of a rematch, especially as he already holds a win over Miocic as well. However, Francis Ngannou is also very deserving of a title shot as he current rides a three-fight winning streak with two former champions in that list.
Cormier is likely to believe he can still beat Miocic and admitted in the post-fight press conference of that fight that he got away from the game plan which was to wrestle.
