On the back of Ross Houston’s release from Cage Warriors and the vacation of the welterweight title, Northern Ireland’s Rhys McKee will get his shot at gold.

Cage Warriors confirmed the news via a press release and McKee will get the chance to claim the title in his hometown of Belfast on May 16th.

McKee is likely the best prospect coming out of Northern Ireland at the moment and is currently riding a three-fight winning streak with a total record of 10-2-1. McKee is also the only fighter to have handed a defeat to former Cage Warriors lightweight champion and recent UFC signee, Jai Herbert under the now defunct BAMMA promotion.

McKee’s latest victory ended early with a 63 second knockout over Hakon Foss at Cage Warriors 110. “Skeletor’s” current three-fight winning streak all consist of finishes.

The Cage Warriors welterweight title is a prestigious one and has been held by UFC veterans such as Dan Hardy, Nicolas Dalby and Cathal Pendred.

McKee’s opponent for the title fight is yet to be confirmed, however, Cage Warriors have stated that the opponent is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
