Back in July, Cage Warriors announced that Jai Herbert would be defending his lightweight title on home soil at their Birmingham show. They have now announced via social media that he will be taking on former UFC fighter Cain Carrizosa.
Herbert won the lightweight title with a stellar performance over highly touted Jack Grant at Cage Warriors: Night of Champions, stopping him in the third round, and now looks to make his first defence against Carrizosa. Herbert is currently on a five-fight winning streak and has won all four of his Cage Warriors bouts.
Carrizosa is also in good form himself going on a four-fight winning streak in the Tachi Palace Fights organisation which helped him bounce back from a three-fight losing streak which included his two UFC bouts where he lost to Chris Wade and Leonardo Mafra Texeira. This will be Carrizosa’s Cage Warriors debut so picking up the title in his first bout would be a huge bonus for the Californian.
Cage Warriors 109 will take place at the Birmingham Resorts World Arena and is shaping up to be a great card with other bouts including Dean Trueman vs Morgan Charrière, Lewis Monarch vs Jordan Vucenic, Brian Bouland vs Chris Miah and Michael Younis vs Mick Stanton.
A convincing win over a former UFC fighter would prove that Jai Herbert is ready for that big step up into the UFC to join his training partner, and fellow Brummie, Leon Edwards.
