Bellator Japan saw two top welterweight contenders compete and earn dominant victories in their performances.

Since Rory MacDonald has departed Bellator to join PFL, the Bellator welterweight title picture has opened up a little bit. The two contenders at the top of the tree to face Douglas Lima next are Michael “Venom” Page and Lorenz “Da Monsoon” Larkin.

MVP scored a second-round knockout win over Shinsho Anzai at Bellator Japan whilst Larkin secured a dominant unanimous decision win over Keita Nakamura on the same show.

Speaking to MMA Junkie about the next challenger to Lima’s welterweight crown, the veteran promoter, Scott Coker, stated that he believes Larkin should get the shot at Lima as they have never fought before. Larkin did miss weight before the bout, but Coker is also willing to give him a pass on this as well.

“We can look past that; he came a long way and it’s not an easy task. I think that the flight, the trip, it’s just a different environment. I think in the timeframe that was different, that had a lot to do with it. The guy has fought, I don’t know his record offhand, but I think in 24 fights he has never missed weight. So, we’ve got to give him a pass for that one.

To me, I think the fight that we would like to see is Lorenz fight Lima, because he hasn’t fought him before. But I’d also like to see Lorenz fight ‘MVP,’ too. So, we’ll see. We’re going to mix it up and have some fun with that weight class.”
