An MMA Junkie report, further confirmed by MMA Fighting sources, suggest that Bellator 231 and Bellator 232 will be back to back events in Connecticut with Bellator 231 taking place on Friday 25th October followed by Bellator 232 on Saturday 26th October. The headlining acts have also been revealed as Bellator 231 is likely to be headlined by a Frank Mir and Roy Nelson rematch whereas Bellator 232 is likely to be the Rory MacDonald vs Douglas Lima rematch.
Mir vs Nelson
Frank Mir and Roy Nelson first faced off at UFC 130 where Mir took a unanimous decision victory. Both athletes will be looking to gain some traction in their Bellator journeys as they have a combined record of 1-5 in the Bellator cage.
Nelson won his first fight in Bellator beating Javy Ayala by unanimous before going on a three-fight losing streak against top contenders in Matt Mitrione, Sergei Kharitonov and Mirko Cro Cop. Mir, on the other hand, has lost his first two bouts with Bellator to Fedor Emelianenko and Javy Ayala and is looking to break a four-fight losing streak with a win over Nelson.
MacDonald vs Lima
Rory MacDonald, the current Bellator welterweight champion, will be looking to beat the man he took the title from in January 2018. MacDonald and Lima have both made it to the final of the Bellator World Grand Prix tournament. The reigning champion made it to the final with a draw against Jon Fitch but progressed due to him retaining his title. He then faced Neiman Gracie in the semi-finals and won a unanimous decision.
Douglas Lima beat former champion Andrey Koreshkov in the quarter finals before scoring a sensational knockout over Michael Page in the semi-finals.
The back to back shows haven’t yet been made official by the organisation and they are expected to be announced at Bellator 225 tonight.
