Sergei Kharitonov Faces Linton Vassell In Bellator 234 Main Event

Sergei Kharitonov makes his return to the cage following a knockout victory over Matt Mitrione in a rematch at Bellator 225. The win marked six wins in his past eight fights with the other two fights being no contests due to accidental groin strikes and eye pokes. Kharitonov’s last loss came in 2016 to Javy Ayala at Bellator 163.

Linton Vassell is a former two-time light heavyweight title challenger who has recently moved up to the heavyweight division. Vassell’s first bout at heavyweight resulted in a unanimous decision loss to Valentin Moldavsky at Bellator 218. The Englishman is currently riding a three-fight losing streak and will be looking to gain his first Bellator heavyweight victory over the currently streaking Kharitonov.

An Instagram post from Haim Gozali first announced the fight. The card is set to take place on November 14th in Tel Aviv, Israel which is Gozali’s home country.

Haim Gozali will also feature on the card alongside his son, Aviv Gozali, an 18 year old prospect who scored the fastest submission in Bellator history at Bellator 225.

Confirmed bouts on the card include the co-main event of Roger Huerta vs Sidney Outlaw as well as a featherweight fight of Olga Rubin vs Sinead Kavanagh. Rubin also grew up in Israel so will have the home-town advantage and will be looking to bounce back from the first loss of her career against Julia Budd which was for the featherweight title.

Also confirmed for the event is Austin Vanderford but his opponent is still to be announced.

Bellator returning to Tel Aviv to showcase their Israelian fighters makes the a lot of sense after the publicity generated from Aviv Gozali’s spectacular heel hook.
